Learning Log for Jan. 30th 2012

What We Did

We went to library today. She gave us the worksheet that we did last time we go to the library. The sheet was about reviewing our learning log. We all done this last time and she was handing back to us , so we can check. After that we she hand out the same sheet but is blank , so we can do it again for January.

Why

We did the learning log review sheet because we have to see what are we doing this month and know what to improve and what we are good at.

Reflection/Connections

We could do reviewing on everything in every subject. So it is important to know how to do it. It help for study test too.

Tips/Reminder

Make sure you finished chapter 1&2 of "There Will Be Wolves".

To Morgan

Dear Morgan,
We are almost done writing the web. Please bring the notes and information you researched on to school tomorrow. We only have tomorrow to finish it. We decided to make a chart for the food category. The chart is going to separate in two parts: rich and poor, so can you do a research on what rich and poor people eat. Thank you.

Novel Group

Learning Log for Tuesday January 17

What we did

Today we sat with our novel groups and continued on from yesterday, which was our good copy webs. After that for the last 10 minutes we filled in our oral communications chart. We will have one whole block to work on it on Wednesday and present them on Thursday. Remember that for the presentation everyone in the group will have to say something.

Why we did it

We worked on our webs because learning to organize your thoughts and connecting them on paper is a good skill everyone should know how to do. The reason we are working on them in class is that since some people have exams to study for, they may not have time to work on the webs. Also because we are presenting them on
Thursday we have to work on them.

Reflection/Connections

I think that my group’s web is going pretty well and that we will finish it on time. Since we have to discuss with our group about the web layout and design, we are working on our discussion and communication skills. These skills are extremely useful in life, such as when you need to get your thoughts out, or in a job interview.

Tips and reminders

Homework is to hand in your paragraphs if you didn’t do so yet, and research some more for your web. Remember that Wednesday is 3412 and Friday is 3311.

Learning Log for January 16th 2012

What we did

Today when we went in the classroom, we were told to sit with our novel group. Ms.Lees went over today's schedule and she collected our course selection sheet. Then we handed in our four paragraphs, in this order: rubric, good copy, draft(s), outline. You need an outline for every paragraph, except for the narrative paragraph. If you lost any of them, you will need to redo it.

After that, Ms.Lees handed every novel group a piece of white paper. On that piece of paper, we need to write out a plan for the concept map we started few days ago, it's like a rough copy. When you're finished with your draft and satisfied with it, you give it to Ms.Lees and she will look at your group's plan and decide if they're ready to write the good copy. About half the class are done with the draft and got their paper for good copy. That's what we did for the rest of the class. We are going to have more class time to work on the good copy. We will be presenting our web on Thursday.

Why we did it

The reason we were told to sit with our novel group in the beginning of class was because every time we get in to groups we would always take a long time. We handed in the paragraphs so Ms.Lees can take a look at them.

The learning intention for doing a rough draft of the web first was to let you organize your information before doing the good copy. So that you get an idea on what the web is going to look like. Also, there won't be any webs that are unacceptable or incomplete because Ms.Lees will look at it before you do the good copy.

Reflection/Connections

I handed all four paragraphs and my course selection sheet. I think I don't have any problems discussing with my group anymore. Our group worked pretty well together, there wasn't any big problems, but we still need to discuss a little more on the group work part. We are done with the rough draft and we are starting on the good copy.

Write out a rough draft before the good copy can be pretty useful, whether it's in English class or outside. Your work will be better if you write a draft first. We are working on our communication skills in humanities and group discussions is a very big part of it. Throughout your life, you'll always need to communicate with others.

Homework

If you're writing the good copy for your web, remember to bring what is needed. Remember to write the oral communication/group discussion chart.

Tips

Your web might need more information, you can do more research, it is always better when you have more detailed information.

Morgan will be doing the learning log on Tuesday.

We do our novel web in the first block. We discus the heading of the novel with our novel group partner. After that we take note for each heading. Next block we find a partner and we editing our paragraphs.

why?

We do the web is to make sure we know what is the novel mean. As well as having skill to do the web, so we know how to do web next year.To editing paragraphs is to know how to correct the mistake and write a good copy.

reflection/connection

Web can also be use in every subject and it is a good way to show teacher that you really know what is a thing mean.
We should edit our paragraphs and essay every time.

Learning Log for January 10th 2012

What we did

Today we took the whole block doing geography challenge. There were 9 rounds and after every three rounds we would exchange papers and mark. Congratulations to Xinglu for scoring the highest in our class.

Why we did it

The learning intention for doing the geography challenge was to help us know more about the geography in Canada and/or the geography around the world. It’s like the spelling bee it doesn’t count for marks but you might discover what your good at and can learn a lot of extra things that you probably won’t in class

Reflections/Connections

I think I need to study more in geography, because I didn’t do very well on the geography challenge.

Knowing the geography around the world will be very useful when you have a job that is related to it, or it doesn’t have to be in work it would still be very useful during school when you are in higher grades.

Homework

Remember to bring your novel and the four paragraphs on Thursday. We are going to get in discussions and proofread our earlier paragraphs.

Learning Log for January 6th 2012

What we did

On Friday our humanities class was in the library. During the first 30 minutes, we finished critiquing our learning log posts that we left off yesterday. Ms.Lees mentioned that the point was to discuss the part that was good and the parts that needs to improve on in groups of two or three, and not critique your own by yourself.

After everyone hand in their sheets we went and sat with our novel group. We had to discuss three webs some other people did and write the negatives and the positives of it.

Why we did it

The purpose of critiquing our blog is to improve on the quality of it, set a goal for ourselves and try to accomplish it in the month of January.

In humanities we are trying to work on oral communication, which is why we are discussing in groups rather than on our own. The learning intention of discussing webs in our novel group was to give ideas and again practice our oral communication skills. Another purpose is to listen to other people’s ideas and it might answer your question. Also it would help when we are doing a web for our novel, which is starting soon.

Reflections/Connections

I think I know some of my problems in writing blogs, and I will try to change my bad habits and try to improve on my weaker parts. I know the purpose of working on our oral communication skills, but I need to speak up more in group discussions, and share my ideas with other group members. So I guess I’m a little bit muddy?

Whether you’re at school or outside working you will always need to look back at your work and critique it to make it better. It is very important to know how to communicate with others, no matter where you are. When you’re doing projects or at work you also need to give ideas and strong reasons to support it.

Homework

Finish assigned novels by Monday.

Tips

If you’re already done the novel, review it so if you forgot what it’s about you can recall your memory.

Dylan will be posting Monday’s learning log

Sorry if my post was late, I was kind of busy.

Learning Log for 05/01/2012

What we did

We talked about criticing our blog in the first block, Ms.Lees told us the criteria on our blog posts. That included proper, grammar, staying on topic, and the list goes on, the score is from 1-5 and this has nothing to do with letter grades. During the second block we went to the library and criticed our blog posts in our groups respectively. We had to critic 2 blog posts of ours and preferably the first and latest to show our improvement.

Why?

We did this so we could learn how to improve on our posting so we match the criteria as best we can

Connection

Doing this may help us in our future when we have to show information to a group of people.

Reminders

Remember to do your 4 paragraphs because Ms. Lees is planing on proofreading them tomorrow.

Homework

Our homework is to work on our blogs, finish our paragraphs, and to finish reading our assigned novel before Monday.
