What we did
In the beginning of the first block Ms. Lees taught us some note taking skills. We took the Pathways textbook and Ms. Lees showed us how to look for text features the different font of titles and subtitles, that way the note taking process will be easier and faster. We worked on our note taking skills for the rest of the block, from page 9 to 20 we had to take notes in the outline form. Ms. Lees wants us to learn different note taking skills so we had to do the web form of note taking from page 21 to 29. While we’re doing our work Ms. Lees helped some students with their geography, some people were unclear and some people were struggling with calculating distance and scale factors. Then we had a short break. During the second block we spend almost half of the class working on our note taking skills. Ms. Lees finished with reviewing the scale factors to some people, then she start with the time zones. In the middle of the class Ms. Lees showed us the Cornell note taking video that was also posted on Ms. Lees blog. After that we did a written bee, to help review, congratulations to the girls for beating the boys!!!!!!
Why we did it
Ms. Lees showed us how to take notes from looking at the text features so we get a better idea on how we should jot the points down and which one is the title or the subtitles. The learning intention for doing a lot of note taking practice is to let us get use to take notes and to be good at it. Doing different kinds of notes is to help when we are taking notes in different subjects. Some topics works better using the outline form some works better using the web. Ms. Lees reviewed the scale factor and the time zones so that people will understand it when we are having the test. The purpose of doing the writing bee is to help us review the words because the spelling bee is next Friday.
Reflections/Connections
In every subject when you are studying, knowing how to take notes will be very useful. Also after taking down notes reviewing them can be very helpful when you have a test. Learning how to spell is very important since we are in a country that speaks both English and French.
Looking at the text features really helped with my note taking skills, so I felt pretty “marvy” today. Also I got twenty out of twenty on the written bee so I guess I don’t have any big problems. Only that I’m a little slow at taking notes probably because I don’t have enough practice.
Homework
