What We Do
Today Ms. Lees checked our persuasive paragraphs homework from yesterday. The one who have not finished will be playing catch up. The second thing we did is the QAR sheet (Question-Answer Relationships). There were four kinds of question RT (Right There) T&S (Think and Search) A&Y (Author and You) OYO (On Your Own).We have to read the paragraphs from the sheet first. Then answer the question that had given and wrote which type of question was it. When you were finished took a text book from the back and write the outline up to page 30. We will keep working on this on Thursday double block. While we are doing all this Ms. Lees were working on our portfolio.
Why?
Ms. Lees check our homework to make sure everyone is doing their homework and know how many people are doing catch up. The QAR worksheet is to make us know more about the question and if you know what type of question and how the question asks it is going to be easier to answer.
Connection
Almost all the teachers will check the homework, so we should finish all the homework before we sleep. The QAR sheet can be used in anywhere that has question and answer.
Homework
The QAR worksheet are due Thursday and the paragraphs package has to be done Thursday too.
Tips
Make sure to follow “Lees Hum 8 @ FH” <- blog.
We have geography test on Friday and make sure to bring the geography package back if you take it from portfolio.

Learning Log for Friday November 25th
What we did
Today we started off by finishing up any homework from yesterday with Ms. Lees going around for a homework check. After that she changed the seating arrangement.
Next we learned about explanatory paragraphs and got our next assignment which
was to write a clever paragraph on the topics on the paper, from your heart
chart, or on how to write a good learning log with an outline.
Why we did it/learning intention
Ms. Lees checked our homework to make sure we are understanding it. We should learn how to write interesting paragraphs because we use writing everyday in life and being able to write good paragraphs is a skill. We should also know what the
types of paragraphs are, which we are learning in class.
Reflections/connections
Learning about paragraphs at school is good because you will need to write them in other subjects and later on in life like when you have a job.
I am marvy at this because I understood what explanatory paragraphs are and am all caught up in my work.
Homework
Write the explanatory paragraph I talked about using the topics from the sheet, your heart diagram or on the topic "how to write a good Learning Log".
Remember to double space.
Morgan will be doing the next learning log

Learning Log for November 24 2011
What We Did
Today for first block we talked about what to do during a power outage, so we get an idea on whether the school is open or not the best choice is to listen to the radio.
Next we did our landforms map of South America from geography that a lot of people didn’t finish.
Later Ms. Lees showed us some examples of blogs and comments, and how to be supportive, and comment in a nice tone. Also we should try different things on the blog.
While the people that came on Tuesday work on the descriptive paragraph exercise one and two, the people that weren’t here played “catch up” with Ms. Lees and went over the narrative paragraphs again.
Why We Did It
The learning intention of explain and discussing what to do during a power outage was to let students know what to do to check if the school is open. So there won’t be a lot of questions and people will show up and won’t be a lot of absents.
Doing the South America map was to help with labeling and follow directions also learn different vocabularies.
Ms. Lees showed us some examples to us, so that we get an idea on what the others were doing. She also showed the classmates our blog because we were kind of arguing, so she taught us how we should comment and say things in a nice tone also be supportive.
Going over the narrative paragraph again, so that we are all on the same page. We are learning paragraphs so that we can write strong ones, it will be very useful throughout your life.
Connection /Reflection
When there is a power outage or a big snow we should all listen to radio that do we have class or do our parents have to work.
The land form map of South America could be used to everywhere and maybe we will have to work in South America.
The narrative and descriptive paragraphs could be used in an essay when we apply for a job or school. It could also be a job for someone if they want to be a writer.
I know I should listen to the radio when there is a power outage or any emergency that school may be close. I know how South America looks like and it has many kind of land like rivers plateaus isthmus peninsula and capes. I understand what is the different between narrative and descriptive paragraphs and hoe to write them.
Homework
For homework we have exercise 1 and 2 for the descriptive paragraph. Exercise 1 is to pick a sentence and write four or five descriptive sentence to support it. For exercise 2 write a descriptive paragraph using the topic given or the ones on your heart map.

Learning Log for November 22 2011
What we did
Today Ms Lees told us to write a heart mapping for our self for about thirty minutes and volunteers share one of there memorize.
We also do PARAGRAGRAPHS.There are three kinds of paragraphs narrative, descriptive and persuasive. We are focusing on narrative today. We read two narrative paragraphs and talk about how can they be improve.
why we did it
The heart mapping is to use to know what memorize that we had and may used to be the topic of the paragraphs that we will write this week.
The two paragraphs we read today both are narrative and we talk about what skill do they use that we do not use them often. The first one have many adjective and the second one have time period but the first one is the way that we are not use to and less people using it.
My Reflections / Connections
The two narrative paragraphs show us what is a narrative paragraph and it is not only in humanities class this will used forever this kind of paragraphs can be used anywhere and it is important to learn how to write a good paragraphs.
Homework
Write a narrative paragraph and the topic is one of the thing on your heart mapping. It is due Thursday if you finish this one you could do next one so you do not have homework on Thursday
Next humanities is on Thursday and Dylan is doing learning log

Learning Log for November 21 2011
What we did
Today at school Ms.Lees showed us some examples of the blogs that grade 9s did. When posting a blog what the expectations are, and how we should do it.
When it is not your turn to post, it's your turn to read and comment on what the other people posted. To give advice and/or add more details on what they wrote about.
After some explanations, we were told to get in to our blog groups and decide who is posting on which day for this week.
Ms.Lees handed out page 70 which is the South America land form questions. We spend the rest of the class working on our South America land form questions and map, using the atlas and worksheet to help.
Why we did it
The learning intention of going over the expectations of writing a post is to let people understand how we should do it so there won't be a lot of questioning and misunderstanding. Also there won't be posts that are not acceptable, for example only two sentences or informal language being used.
The purpose of the South America land form map is to help with the skill, follow the directions given. To learn more about the vocabularies snd the meanings of land forms. We did the picture dictionaries, but we had never label it on a map before, so it also helps with recognizing the difference of some similar land forms.
Connections
The expectations that we learned today can be very helpful, when creating other blogs for different purposes we can get an idea on what the expectations will be. In the future, whether it's at school or at work knowing how to share information on a blog is very important.
In all subjects at school or working on a project at work knowing how to follow instructions is a very big part of it. So that is why we have a lot of practices. When traveling to different countries an atlas will be very useful if you know how to use it.
Homework
Tomorrow Ms.Lees will let us work on our South America map, so you don't have to finish it today. The only thing is to make sure your portfolio is ready. Also remember to comment on posts!!! It counts as homework too.
Michael H will be posting on Tuesday
