Learning Log for Monday February 20th 2012

What we did

Today our humanities class was in the library. We started on our new project.

First Ms.Lees explained our new assignment which was to take notes on a daily life of this certain character you pick and by using the character, you write a diary based on what they eat, work, their duties… the roles were: peasant’s son, maid of castle, page, lady of manor etc….

Ms.Lees told us how to do a bibliography and what it should include:

Book

Ÿ Title

Ÿ Publishing company

Ÿ Author(s) or editor(s)

Ÿ Copyright date (most recent)

Ÿ Publishing city

ž Choose Canadian and U.S cities over international cities

ž Closer to Vancouver

Website

Ÿ Title

Ÿ Date accessed

Ÿ Author(s)

Ÿ url

Ÿ look for “how to cite this page”

Then Ms.Lees took out a container with all the roles in it and she went around and we picked our roles. It was pretty exciting.

We started our research. We need to have at least three sources and one must be a physical book. We worked on our note making and researching until break time.

Why we did it

The purpose of this assignment was to let us learn more about the life in middle ages and about a specific person that played a part in the middle ages. We learned about what a bibliography should have so that we won’t take credits for the information.

Reflections/Connections

It was quiet working in the library, and it helped me focus on note making and researching the role I’m playing. I did a few bibliographies before but this time I learned a more professional way, so it was really helpful

When doing a research project in the future, you might always need to make a bibliography, so learning how to make one is important and useful. Researching is a big part of assignments, you need to look for information and organize you notes, and then you write them in to paragraphs.
